Discovering Rubavu: A Tourism Learning Adventure – RTC TSS
Welcome to an exciting learning adventure with Tourism Level 3 students of Rubavu Technical College – TSS (RTC)! The students embarked on a short educational field trip designed to explore the geographical features and natural attractions surrounding their school. The trip offered a valuable opportunity to move beyond classroom lessons and experience the beauty of Rubavu firsthand. Through exploration, observation, and interaction with nature, students strengthened their understanding of tourism resources, developed practical knowledge, and discovered how geographical features contribute to the growth of tourism in Rwanda.
The field trip featured several exciting activities and destinations. At Rubavu Tourism Destination Management Area (Rubavu DMA), students participated in outdoor activities, including pitching tents, which helped them develop camping skills, teamwork, and a spirit of adventure. Their journey continued to Pfunda Tea Plantation, where they admired the green tea-covered hills and explored the relationship between agriculture, landscapes, and tourism. At Sebeya River, students observed the river and its surrounding environment, gaining a better understanding of the importance of water bodies as geographical features and natural resources. Each destination provided a unique learning experience, connecting tourism theory with practical field observations.
The highlight of the adventure was hiking to Yakobo Waterfall, where students experienced the excitement of exploring the natural landscape on foot. The hike encouraged physical fitness, cooperation, environmental appreciation, and a deeper understanding of nature-based tourism. From pitching tents at Rubavu DMA to discovering the landscapes of Pfunda Tea Plantation, Sebeya River, and Yakobo Waterfall, the trip created lasting memories and meaningful learning opportunities.
