Level 3 Students at Rubavu Technical College Embrace Practical Training for Career Readiness
At Rubavu Technical College TSS, hands-on training plays a vital role in preparing students for professional success. This semester, all Level 3 students in the trades of Tourism, Automobile Technology, Food and Beverage Operations, and Electronics and Telecommunications have embarked on an intensive practical training program as part of their third-semester activities. The practices are taking place both within the school’s well-equipped workshops and at external partner facilities including the hotel of Martins Expert Home and German Expert Garage. These environments offer students a blend of real-world exposure and guided supervision, ensuring they gain meaningful experience directly related to their fields.
This program, which functions as a school-based internship, is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It helps students apply the knowledge they acquire in classrooms to real-life tasks and challenges. By engaging directly in work that mirrors their lessons—serving guests in a professional hotel, repairing vehicles in a commercial garage, or managing complex systems in technical labs—students not only reinforce their learning but also develop practical competencies essential for workplace performance. The purpose of this initiative is to enhance students’ practical skills and prepare them for the demands of the workforce. By operating in realistic settings, students are not just learning how to do things, but why they’re done a certain way.

This improves their technical accuracy, decision-making abilities, and confidence. Furthermore, working alongside experienced professionals helps students understand industry standards, workplace ethics, and customer service, all of which are critical for their future careers.
Mr. NIYITEGEKA Theogene, the Director of Studies, emphasized the importance and intentional design of this practical phase. “Our goal is to ensure that students don’t just leave with knowledge but with strong, demonstrable skills that meet today’s job market needs,” he said. He added that these internal and external practice settings were carefully chosen to reflect real industry challenges and opportunities.
Through this program, Rubavu Technical College TSS reaffirms its commitment to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) excellence, producing graduates who are not only academically prepared but also technically capable and ready to contribute to national development.

At Rubavu Technical College, internship opportunities are not limited to Level 3 students alone; learners in Level 4 and Level 5 are also encouraged to participate in internships outside the school environment. This approach aims to broaden their practical experience, expose them to real-world industry practices, and strengthen the skills acquired in class. By engaging with external organizations, these students can apply their technical knowledge, develop professional networks, and gain valuable insights that enhance their readiness for the job market. Encouraging internships across all levels ensures a continuous and progressive development of competencies throughout their academic journey.
